GCARC Sunday Information Net SCRIPT
Notes to Net Control Operator. This script is for your convenience. You may stray from it, omit parts, and add other information at your will. Please remember that many people and organizations are listening around the state and now, with Echolink, around the world. Keep it professional and ethical — using polite language and handling issues delicately. You are in control and can determine who may speak and when. Comments that are off-topic or out of line may be re-directed to the end of the net.
The Actual Script:
INTRODUCTION
Good evening this is XXX, my name is XXX. I am now activating the Grayson County Amateur Radio Club Information Net on the Sherman, TX W5RVT 147.000 repeater. Our backup repeater will be the W5COP 147.280. I am your Net Control Operator for tonight’s net. Welcome to all who have decided to get on the air tonight.
CALL FOR EMERGENCY TRAFFIC
If there are any stations with emergency or priority traffic, please come now.
(Handle emergency and priority traffic, if any)
No Emergency or Priority traffic has been heard. If you have emergency or priority traffic message during the Net, please call BREAK-BREAK for immediate acknowledgement by Net Control.
CALL FOR BACKUP NET CONTROL OPERATOR
Is anyone willing to act as the Backup Net Control Operator? Please come now.
SPONSOR AND PURPOSE
The GCARC was established in part to:
- provide trained, licensed radio operators to support local community and organizational activities, and to assist federal, state, county, and local agencies during times of emergency through ARES and RACES when needed and,
- conduct activities that facilitate the exchange of information, as well as promote radio knowledge and comradery within the Amateur Radio and local communities.
NET PROTOCOL
You do not have to be a member of the GCARC radio club to participate in this net.
This is a directed general conversational net. Its purpose is to share information about club events, discuss technical topics, ask technical/non-technical questions, and have a general round table discussion about the Net Control Operator’s selected topic. At the end of the round table SWAP MEET session will be conducted.
If you are interested in serving as net control for one of our nets, contact me or one of the club officers and we will work you into the net schedule.
This is a directed net. A directed net is one in which the conversation is entirely controlled by the Net Control Operator. This means that every participant is asked to 1) stick to the topic that the Net Control Operator has asked for; 2) don’t bring up other subjects until invited to do so; and 3) wait for permission from the Net Control Operator to continue a comment that you’ve brought up.
Check-in in groups of three please. Give your call sign phonetically (It’s an FCC regulation.) followed by your first name. If you do not give your callsign phonetically, you will be asked to do so. Please indicate if you are short time (just in for the count). If you so indicate, you will not be called on for comment during the round table discussion.
Please call a “recheck” and wait to be recognized by net control if you wish to make a comment at any time prior to or after being called during the round table discussion.
I will now take check-ins in groups of three starting with our Operators on Echo link. [Log check-ins and repeat back call sign and name, repeat until no check-ins heard.]
(Now taking call check-ins in groups of three)
Welcome, and thank you to all those who have checked in.
CLUB NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
(You may ask for one of the club board members to make these announcements. Usually, the announcements are made by the president if present on the net other or any club officer of the club in place of the president)
GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Grayson County ARES Net meets on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month 8:00 PM on this repeater. This is a directed ARES training net.
The GCARC Internet address is: http://www.graysoncountyarc.org.
This is XXX, your new control operator and you are listening to the GCARC Information Net.
ROUND TABLE SELECTED TOPIC DISCUSSION
We will now recall all check-ins in the order received and ask for their comments about tonight’s topic.
(Call each previous check-in in order of their check in)
Okay I am at the end of my list, are there any more stations that would like to check in at this time, if so, please come now.
(Pause for any further late check-ins and invite them to make their comments at this time)
More Comments or topics
We will now take any comments or topics that anyone wants to bring up that were not included in tonight’s discussion. Please come now with your call sign and wait for Net Control to acknowledge your desire to comment or ask a question. Thanks.
SWAP MEET
This is XXX, net control operator for the GCARC information net. We will now begin the SWAP MET part of the net but first we need to go over the rules.
You can offer an item for sale or you can announce an item of need. Mentioning a price is permitted. However, price “negotiations” should be handoff the air in a more private setting. Any station having items for Swap Net, please come now with your call sign.
(Pause for check-ins)
(For the Swap Meet only. Re-call all stations that have items for the Swap Meet.)
NET CLOSURE
This is XXX your net control operator and you are listening to the GCARC Information Net. This is the last call for late check-ins. Do we have any late check-ins or anyone with final comments?
(Pause for late check-ins, rechecks or final comments. Invite them to speak at this time)
(Hearing nothing…)
It sounds like we are done for the evening. This is XXX, I would like to thank everyone who checked in tonight. This session of the Grayson County Amateur Radio Club Information Net is now closed, and the repeater is returned to normal use. Thanks, and 73 to all. This is XXX and I am now returning over the repeater to normal use.
