Our November Station of Month belongs to Dave O’ Neal (NG5E). Dave primarily focuses on the HF bands using an ICOM 7300 and Ameritron ALS-1306 1.2 kw 160-6m amplifier that he uses to work ft8, ft4, PSK31, RTTY, and CW. While he uses many different modes and bands, his favorite mode to operate is CW. Dave also has another IC-7300 that he uses with a 43-foot vertical antenna as a mobile station for Parks on the Air (POTA) events. This same mobile station is used with a 30 ft mast (tuned) while he works on the Quantum 4000 (Q4000), that is, unless he can sneak a wire somewhere on the ship ;). Although there is a lot of electrical interference when Dave is receiving contacts from the vessel, he can transmit long distances across the water.
Dave jokes that his primary goal is catching up to Lee on POTA contacts…or at least making it to 1000 parks in the next couple of months. Additionally, he would like to make DXCC by having contacts in 100 countries on 80m using his 67 ft free standing antenna with 60 buried radials.
